Scope and Content Pier, Lagavulin Distillery, Islay, Argyll Lagavulin is an example of the type of distillery that gradually developed after early 19th-century changes in the law made commercial distilling easier. This pier allowed whisky to be loaded directly onto boats. Like the other distilleries on Islay, Lagavulin was sited for direct access to sea-transport. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
