Scope and Content Lecture Theatre, Glasgow School of Art, No 167 Renfrew Street, Glasgow This black and white photograph of the lecture theatre of the Glasgow School of Art was taken in 1910 by the photographer, Harry Bedford Lemere. The theatre, at basement level, lies in the western wing of the building, at the foot of the library tower. The wooden-panelled theatre has raked seating which faces, usually, into the corner of the room. The circular counter across the corner (right), useful for the display of objects, is in sections, and can be removed for other dramatic presentations. The School's architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, designed the theatre with a separate entrance for lecturers, and provided, outside in the corridor, seats in the curves of the walls of adjacent studios for students waiting for the theatre to open.
