Scope and Content Mackintosh Room (the Old Board Room), Glasgow School of Art, No 167 Renfrew Street, Glasgow The Mackintosh Room, part of the first phase of building of the Glasgow School of Art, served until 1906 as the Board Room of the School. This photograph, taken in 1910 by Harry Bedford Lemere, shows the room set up as a studio for flower drawing. This spacious white room, flooded by light from a pair of tall windows which form the beginnings of an undulating wall, is lined with timber panelling. The magnificent stone fireplace is original, and the ceiling is supported by two exposed steel beams. This room was designed by the architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, as the original Board Room of the School in which, it is recorded, the Board members felt most uncomfortable. In 1906 a new Board Room was created, and this room became a studio. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
