Scope and Content Pre-restoration view of first floor, Little Tarrell Castle, near Portmahomack, Highland Little Tarrell Castle was probably built in the late 16th century for the Rosses of Little Tarrell. It served as a store and bothy from in the early 19th century until 1981-4 when it was restored. This shows the first floor in 1978, prior to restoration. To the left is a partially blocked window. The opening between it and the door is a wall cupboard or aumbry. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
