Scope and Content Hugh Miller's Cottage, Church Street, Cromarty, Highland Cromarty was a depopulated and poor burgh until 1772 when George Ross purchased the Cromarty estate and went on to establish a rope-works and a brewery. The town flourished until about 1850 when both enterprises failed. This cottage belonged to the 19th-century writer and geologist Hugh Miller. It was built in 1711 by John Feddes and is now in the care of The National Trust for Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
