Scope and Content Mid 20th-century view of steam train at Railway Station, Station Road, Tain, Highland Tain, a medieval place of pilgrimage, became a royal burgh by 1567. It expanded from the late 18th century onwards during which time the layout of its streets was rationalised. This 1956 view shows a steam train passing through the Railway Station. The station itself was built in 1864 by Joseph Mitchell for the Highland Railway Company. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
