Scope and Content Stobhall, chapel, Perth and Kinross The chapel is the earliest of several buildings of medieval or later date situated on the promontory at Stobhall. Possibly of 14th- or 15th-century date, the chapel became a ground-floor hall when it was incorporated into a tower-house in 1578. The simple rectangular chapel has a particularly fine painted ceiling dating to 1642. The ceiling was repainted in 1858 and is decorated with figures of contemporary kings interspersed with panels of animals, birds and floriated designs. Depicted on horseback are the kings of Britain, Spain, Sweden, France, Poland, Hungary, the Sultan of Turkey, the Emperor of Germany and Prester John, while the king of Mauretania is on an elephant, accompanied by two men.
