Scope and Content Rear of 9-17 High Street, Kinghorn, Fife Kinghorn was a royal burgh by about 1170. It had a weekly market from 1285, but was not represented in parliament until 1470. Much of the burgh was rebuilt in the 19th century when the linen industry brought new prosperity. Many of the High Street's houses date from the 18th and 19th centuries and have traditional Fife vernacular features like pantiles and crow-stepped gables. Some of the later houses incorporate earlier datestones in their masonry. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
