Scope and Content Stained glass windows, first floor of south range, Falkland Palace, Fife Falkland Palace was remodelled in 1537-41 for King James V (died 1542). The south range dates from his reign, as do the exteriors of the earlier buildings. The east and north ranges were probably both built for King James IV (1488-1513). This pair of stained-glass windows shows the arms of King James I, and those of his wife. It is one several pairs installed in the south range in the 1890s. Falkland Palace's late 19th-century alterations and restorations were carried out for John Crighton-Stuart, third Marquis of Bute, who became hereditary Keeper in 1887. The work continued under his heirs. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
