Scope and Content Whitefield, tower-house, Perth and Kinross Dating to 1577, Whitefield tower-house fell into ruin at the start of the 19th century when the slates and stone were removed and reused for neighbouring farm buildings. L-plan in shape, the tower-house stands three storeys high with gun-loops positioned around the walls for defence. One example is shown here. Tower-houses were built in Scotland between the 14th and 17th centuries and were one of the simplest forms of fortified residence. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
