Scope and Content View from north showing north-east side of Mill House, Burnside, Auchtermuchty, Fife Auchtermuchty was created a royal burgh in 1517. It developed as a small industrial settlement in the late 18th and 19th centuries with the establishment of a linen works and an iron foundry. The last looms stopped weaving in 1912. This is Mill House in Burnside, which probably originally formed part of a mill on the banks of the Auchtermuchty Burn. Built of rubble with dressed red sandstone dressings, it has an unusually narrow window above the modern door. The village grew up along the banks of the Auchtermuchty Burn, and by the end of the 19th century, this water supply had attracted a number of industries to the settlement, including two malt kilns, three saw mills, a distillery and an iron foundry.
