Scope and Content View from south-east showing houses in Burnside and Bondgate, Auchtermuchty, Fife Auchtermuchty was created a royal burgh in 1517. It developed as a small industrial settlement in the late 18th and 19th centuries with the establishment of a linen works and an iron foundry. The last looms stopped weaving in 1912. This shows a terrace of houses at the corner of Burnside and Bondgate. Probably built in the 19th century, the building is two-storeyed with an attic floor within the three dormer windows. Two windows have been inserted into the gable wall. Built of rubble with dressed stone door and window surrounds, the building has prominent quoins (stones at the corners) on the gable-end to Bondgate, seen here, which have been set alternately long and short.
