Scope and Content Carnegie Centre, Dunfermline, Fife The Carnegie Centre was built in 1901-5 by Hippolyte J Blanc of Edinburgh as a sports centre and swimming pool. It was modified and extended by James Parr and Partners in 1979-84. The centre is built in Scottish Renaissance style with steep roofs, broad chimneys and towers with curving ogee-roofs. Historical styles, like interpretations of early Renaissance architecture, became popular in the 19th-century because they were supposed to reflect national, rather than Classical, architectural traditions.
