Scope and Content Aerial view of Coroghon Castle and Coroghon Barn, Canna, Highland Coroghon Castle stands on a stack that juts out into the sea and is said to have been a prison used by Donald MacDonald of Clanranald to confine his wife. Coroghon Barn was built in the late 18th century and occupies a sloping site above Coroghon Bay. This aerial view shows Coroghon Castle and Coroghon Barn with the isolated stack, Alman, visible bottom right. This stack is accessible only at low tide by a narrow fissure on its north side. A survey of Canna and Sanday was undertaken by the Royal Commission to record all the archaeological sites and monuments and the landscape within which they lie. This landscape is published as RCAHMS Broadsheet 5. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
