Scope and Content Coroghon Castle, Canna, Highland from the north-west Coroghon Castle stands on top of a stack at the south-east end of the cliffs that form the east end of Canna. The castle is said to have been a prison, used in the late 17th century by Donald MacDonald of Clanranald to confine his wife. This view looks across Coroghon Castle to the east end of Sanday with the dramatic coast of Rum beyond. A survey of Canna and Sanday was undertaken by the Royal Commission to record all the archaeological sites and monuments and the landscape within which they lie.
