Scope and Content Standing stone, cairns and enclosure at Kintraw, Kilmartin, Argyll and Bute These monuments stand about 200m south-east of Kintraw farmhouse, at the mouth of the Bealach Mor. There are two cairns, a standing stone and what may be an enclosure. Their location gives them a fine view down Loch Craignish. This view shows a setting on three slabs on the south-west side of the cairn. They form part of the kerb surrounding the cairn, and are probably a 'false portal' - they appear to be the entrance to a chamber, but don't actually lead anywhere. The two cairns were excavated between 1959 and 1960. The standing stone fell down during the winter of 1978, and its socket was examined in 1979. Both the standing stone and the larger cairn have been referred to as the 'Danish King's Grave'. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
