Scope and Content Cist at Poltalloch, Kilmartin, Argyll and Bute There are a number of cists buried in the gravel terraces near North Lodge, Poltalloch. Four of these occur in a group 550m to the south-west. A single cist lies 65m roughly north-west of the lodge. This is a view of one of the cists. It is aligned north-east and south-west. The south-east side-slab has fallen outwards. It had grooves at each end to hold the end-slabs. The capstone is still partially buried. One cist was first opened and examined by Professor Bryce in 1910, and was found to contain a few fragments of bone. Craw re-examined this cist and two others in 1928, and, as well as cremated bone, a knife and a necklace, he also found a Food Vessel. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
