Scope and Content Cist at Poltalloch, Kilmartin, Argyll and Bute There are a number of cists buried in the gravel terraces near North Lodge, Poltalloch. Four of these occur in a group 550m to the south-west. A single cist lies 65m roughly north-west of the lodge. This is a view of one of the cists. Part of it is still buried in the side of the gravel terrace, but one side has fallen away giving access to the inside. The cist was first investigated in 1928 but it had already been disturbed and there were no finds. One cist was first opened and examined by Professor Bryce in 1910, and was found to contain a few fragments of bone. Craw re-examined this cist and two others in 1928, and, as well as cremated bone, a knife and a necklace, he also found a Food Vessel. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
