Scope and Content Three etched stones discovered at Dunadd, Argyll and Bute The fort at Dunadd occupies a rocky crag rising steeply from the surrounding valley floor, once protected on nearly all sides by marshland. Dunadd was an important centre of power in Dalriada, the Kingdom of the Scots. The outline of a penannular brooch has been etched onto the flat stone, the settings indicated by small circles. The small round stone is inscribed INOMINE ('in the name (of the Lord)'). Etched on the other stone is an irregular piece of scrollwork. Finds from the excavations indicate that high quality metal working was being carried out at Dunadd. Fragments of several hundred crucible moulds to cast bronze jewellery have been recovered.
