Scope and Content Pair of brooch-moulds, Dunadd, Argyll and Bute The fort at Dunadd occupies a rocky crag rising steeply from the surrounding valley floor, once protected on nearly all sides by marshland. Dunadd was an important centre of power in Dalriada, the Kingdom of the Scots. This pair of clay moulds would have produced a finely detailed penannular brooch with bird-headed terminals. Some of the intricate knotwork which would have decorated the ring of the brooch survives on the upper mould. Finds from the excavations indicate that high quality metal working was being carried out at Dunadd. Fragments of several hundred crucible moulds to cast bronze jewellery have been recovered.
