Scope and Content Cup-and-ring markings at Cairnbaan, Argyll and Bute Two sheets of rock at Cairnbaan are heavily decorated with cup-and-ring markings. Pecked into this sheet of rock is a complex pattern of cup-and-ring marks, some with as many as four rings, and long lengths of shallow grooves. Broadly similar Neolithic rock art appears in north-west Spain, Brittany and Ireland. The purpose of these carvings remains uncertain. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
