Catalogue Number SC 374384

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Profile of moulding of fireplace architrave, west wall (A) of panelled first-floor private room, 159 block, Culross Palace, Fife Culross Palace, originally called 'The Great Lodging', was built between 1597 and 1611 by George Bruce. Restored by The National Trust for Scotland and Historic Scotland, it is the best surviving example of a merchant's house from that period. This is a cross-section of the moulding of the surround, or architrave, of the fireplace in the west wall. Like the room's wooden panelling, it was probably installed during the reign of George II (1727-1760). Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
