Scope and Content Section of door surround or architrave of entrance (F) in west wall (C) of panelled first-floor private room, 1597 block of Culross Palace, Culross, Fife Culross Palace, originally called 'The Great Lodging', was built between 1597 and 1611 by George Bruce. Restored by The National Trust for Scotland and Historic Scotland, it is the best surviving example of a merchant's house from that period. This wooden moulding comes from the surround, or architrave, of the entrance to the first-floor private room in the original 1597 block. Like the room's wooden panelling, the moulding was installed during the reign of George II (1727-1760). Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
