Scope and Content St Ronan's Church, Iona, Argyll and Bute Iona is one of the most important religious sites in Scotland. The earliest community was formed by St Columba who came over from Ireland around AD 563. This was replaced by the Benedictine Abbey and Augustinian Nunnery in around AD 1200. This is a view of the remains of the church from the south-east. It lies to the north of the Nunnery. In 1923 it was restored and given a glass roof. St Ronan's Church is now used as the Nunnery Museum. It is believed that the building was the medieval Parish Church. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
