Scope and Content Kate's Cottage from the east, Canna Kate's Cottage occupies an elevated position at the foot of a steep scree slope. Traditionally, it is said to have been built for a shepherd to watch over his flock of sheep. Kate's Cottage is a single-storey building with adjoining outstore. It was renovated in the early 1990s by The National Trust for Scotland and provides accommodation for visitors to the island. A survey of Canna and Sanday was undertaken by the Royal Commission to record all the archaeological sites and monuments and the landscape within which they lie. This landscape is published as RCAHMS Broadsheet 5. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
