Scope and Content A large stony mound lies on a terrace overlooking Tarbert Bay, Canna While several of the large stony mounds on Canna and Sanday are built up of the remains of successive shieling-huts, others contain much larger stone structures. This mound incorporates a massive circular structure that is defined by an external kerb of boulders and is in turn overlain by at least five smaller structures. A survey of Canna and Sanday was undertaken by the Royal Commission to record all the archaeological sites and monuments and the landscape within which they lie. This landscape is published as RCAHMS Broadsheet 5. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
