Scope and Content A large stony mound lying amongst lazy-beds to the west of Tarbert, Canna Some of the large stony mounds that have been recorded on Canna and Sanday are built up of the remains of successive shieling-huts. The pottery recovered from rabbit burrows into these mounds comprises undecorated sherds of coarse cooking vessels. At least three subrectangular stone-walled huts are visible amongst the scattered stones that form this low grassy mound. They are situated on a terrace overlooking an area of boggy ground. A survey of Canna and Sanday was undertaken by the Royal Commission to record all the archaeological sites and monuments and the landscape within which they lie. This landscape is published as RCAHMS Broadsheet 5. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
