Description General view of main front of Craigmarloch Stables from South-East

Catalogue Number SC 367286

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of A 62221

Scope and Content View of stables at Craigmarloch on the Forth and Clyde Canal The Forth and Clyde Canal was Scotland's earliest major, and also longest, canal. It was built in stages between 1768 and 1791. Its structures decayed rapidly after it closed in 1962. These stables would have been used to rest and feed the horses which would have pulled barges and boats up and down the canal. As the photograph shows, they are now in a derelict state.
