Scope and Content Painted panels on first floor of North Block, Culross Palace, Fife Culross Palace, originally called 'The Great Lodging', was built between 1597 and 1611 by George Bruce. Restored by The National Trust for Scotland and Historic Scotland, it is the best surviving example of a merchant's house from that period. This is one of the living-rooms on the North Block's first floor. The painted panels probably date from the original construction in 1611. This picture, taken in 1947, shows these before restoration.
