Scope and Content Rear of Culross Palace from gardens, Fife Culross Palace, originally called 'The Great Lodging', was built between 1597 and 1611 by George Bruce. Restored by The National Trust for Scotland and Historic Scotland, it is the best surviving example of a merchant's house from that period. The roof and chimney of the oldest block, built in 1597, are just visible to extreme right, behind the kitchen and the strongroom, both added before 1611. To their left, with the three dormer windows, is the north block, built in 1611. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
