Scope and Content 1597 block and entrance to Long Gallery of Culross Palace, Fife Culross Palace, originally called 'The Great Lodging', was built between 1597 and 1611 by George Bruce. Restored by The National Trust for Scotland and Historic Scotland, it is the best surviving example of a merchant's house from that period. On the right is the oldest block, built in 1597 before George Bruce, whose arms are displayed above the middle dormer window, made his fortune. The steps lead up to the entrance to one of his first additions, the early 17th-century Long Gallery. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
