Scope and Content Architectural fragment from Iona Abbey, Argyll and Bute The Benedictine abbey at Iona was built around AD 1200 on the site of St Columba's earlier monastery. It was altered and partly rebuilt in the 13th century and again in the 15th century. It became derelict after the Reformation of 1560. This is the head of a 15th-century window. The outer face of the arch-head is moulded in three orders of ogee-cusped profile, with chamfers on the inner and outer orders. During the excavation, restoration and rebuilding of the Abbey, numerous architectural fragments were unearthed. Some of these were reused in the rebuilding. Many others are on display in the Abbey Museum. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
