Plan of Blar Buide cairn. Preparatory ink drawing.

SC 365522

Description Plan of Blar Buide cairn. Preparatory ink drawing.

Date c. 1974

Collection Records of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS), Edinbu

Catalogue Number SC 365522

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of AGD 594/5

Scope and Content Cairn at Blar Buidhe, Iona, Argyll and Bute This cairn stands behind a bluff at Blar Buidhe. It now looks like a grass-covered mound, but was originally surrounded by a kerb of large boulders. Two of these are still in place, standing to 1 m in height. A further five are lying close by. This plan of the cairn shows the location of the two in situ boulders in black, and the five other boulders in white. A further boulder, in the SE part of the cairn, is not shown on earlier plans, and may be a recent addition. A plan of the cairn was also made by Sir Henry Dryden in 1875. This showed a trench running across the cairn, suggesting that it had been excavated at that time. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
