Scope and Content Outer upright and stiffening beam joints in central bay of Aultnaslanach Railway Viaduct, Inverness-shire Aultnaslanach Railway Viaduct carries the Aviemore to Inverness railway line which was opened by the Highland Railway Company in 1897. It is the only surviving wooden main-line railway viaduct in Scotland. Notches in the stiffening beam and the upright make a half-lap joint. This is secured by box-brackets and base-plates. The strut fits into the obtuse angle between the upright and the beam and is held in place by a strap-plate bolted to a filler-piece. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
