Scope and Content Temporary camp at Amisfield Tower, Dumfries and Galloway This Roman temporary camp at Amisfield Tower was discovered by aerial survey in 1984. At that time, the land was used as pasture. Almost the whole perimeter of the camp can be seen as a cropmark in this aerial photograph of the site. It follows the typical shape of such camps, namely a rectangular plan with rounded corners. This camp may have been on the route of the Annandale to Nithdale Roman road.
