Scope and Content Drawing showing long section through Castle Sween, Argyll and Bute Castle Sween dates from c.1200 with additions in the early 13th to 17th centuries. Garrisoned in the 1640s, it became ruinous soon after. It has been repaired since being place in the care of the Office of Works (now Historic Scotland) in 1933. This is a section through the castle from the north-east and north-west towers (left) to the south curtain wall (right). It illustrates the shape of the site, with half of the north-west tower lying below the ground level of the main enclosure. In this section, the original part of the castle lies to the right, while the later additions are on the left. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
