Scope and Content View of north curtain wall and north-east tower, Castle Sween, Argyll and Bute Castle Sween dates from c.1200 with additions in the early 13th to 17th centuries. Garrisoned in the 1640s, it became ruinous soon after. It has been repaired since being place in the care of the Office of Works (now Historic Scotland) in 1933. This shows the angle between the north curtain wall and the north-west round tower. In the centre of the photograph is a garderobe (medieval toilet) projecting from a first-floor chamber within the curtain wall. To the right, the north-west tower contained a further garderobe with a passage paved with slabs of stone to allow it to be cleaned out. There were chambers on the first and upper floors.
