Scope and Content Interior (from nave) of Kilbrannan Chapel, Knapdale, Argyll Kilbrannan Chapel, dedicated to St Brendan, was probably built to replace Skipness Castle's chapel in around 1300. Most of the stone was quarried nearby, but the red sandstone dressings came from Arran, just across the Sound. The worshippers in the nave would have had a very different view from this one. The walls would have been plastered and probably painted with biblical scenes. The altar (and the serving priest) in the chancel was hidden by a wooden rood screen.
