Scope and Content Detail of cupola from first floor of Casa D'Italia, No 22 Park Circus, Glasgow Park Circus is Glasgow's finest example of a Classical 'circus' (a street in the shape of a Roman amphitheatre, or circus). It was designed in 1855 and built in 1857-8 by Charles Wilson, architect. northo 22 was a later addition by James Boucher in 1872. No 22 was richly decorated with a magnificent arcaded ground-floor hall, and upper hall. This shows the ornate ceiling and leaded glass cupola above the upper hall, which is painted in rich colours of gold, red and deep turquoise blue. The house also boasts an impressive Art Nouveau billiards room and a panelled and domed ante-room, both with richly embossed wallpapers. These rooms were designed in 1897-9 by James Salmon and John Gaff Gillespie. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
