Scope and Content Structural detail drawings of Engine Works, Fairfield Shipbuilding Yard, Govan, City of Glasgow The Engine Works was constructed after 1869 to when the firm moved from a smaller yard at Centre Street to Fairfield Shipbuilding Yard. It was an improvement on other contemporary works both in its scale, and in the rationality of its design. The structure consists of a roof supported by iron stanchions with two stages of bracing struts and iron strainer-beams. A travelling crane runs on the gantry-beam of each hall. Originally, there were two galleries between each hall. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
