Scope and Content Ground plan of kiln-block of later Murrayshall Limeworks, Cambusbarron, Stirlingshire The later Murrayshall Limeworks was founded in 1896-9. It burned local limestone deposits using coal from Bannockburn. A tramway, shared with Hayford Mills, connected it to the nearby Forth and Clyde Junction Railway. Following standard practice, the kiln-block was built into a bank to make it easier to load or 'charge' the kilns (b). Quicklime was drawn off through the eyes (c) inside the draw arches (d). Tunnels (e) gave access to the arches at the sides. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
