Scope and Content Watch tower at Brownhart Law, Scottish Borders This Roman watch tower lies on the NE end of Brownhart Law. It was possibly part of a signalling system including the watch tower on Rubers Law, which can be seen thirteen miles away to the WNW. A turf rampart can still be seen on the ground. This is an aerial view of the site. The rectangular rampart which surrounded the tower can be seen. There was a single ditch on the SE angle to the SW, with double-ditches on the other sides. The entrance is in the E side, facing Dere Street. The watch tower was discovered in 1945 and some excavation work was done the following year. The post does not seem to be related with the signalling stations along Dere Street. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
