Scope and Content Cross-slab at Rossie Priory, Perth and Kinross Rossie Priory cross-slab was found originally in the old parish graveyard and is now housed within a private mortuary chapel. The stone at Rossie Priory is unusual for bearing two crosses on either face. Dominated by a large cross in low relief, the rear face is decorated with a lively scene showing mounted huntsmen and their hounds. Along the left edge are symbols and monsters. Pictish symbols are perhaps the best-known aspect of this somewhat enigmatic people. Recent work by scholars has suggested that some symbols might relate to personal names. Similarly, the monsters could relate to stories which the Picts knew. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
