Scope and Content Fort at Cramond, City of Edinburgh This Roman fort is at Cramond, overlooking the confluence of the River Almond with the Forth. Most of the site now lies under modern structures, including a church, graveyard and a car park. There were several phases of occupation on the site. This is a view of a stone found built into the wall of Cramond Kirk. The stone is of Roman origin, and has a typical pattern of cross-hatched lines on it. The fort has been excavated several times. Garrisons included the Legio II Augusta, a cohort of Tungrians, one of Gauls, and the Twentieth Legion. Finds are now in Huntly House Museum and the Royal Museum of Scotland, both in Edinburgh.
