Scope and Content View of door to tiled room from lobby in Manager's House at Dunmore Pottery, Falkirk Situated c.8km north of Falkirk, Dunmore Pottery was established in the early 19th century but mostly dates from c.1860, when the running of the pottery was taken over by Peter Gardner of Dunmore. It manufactured tiles and domestic ware using clay from Dunmore, Devon and Cornwall. This room in what is now known as the manager's house was decorated with coloured tiles from the pottery. Once covering the ceiling and walls, they now only survive on the doors and fireplace. The tiling was undertaken for a visit by the Prince of Wales (Edward VII) in 1887. The manager's house and a range of single-storeyed, pantile-roofed workers' cottages are all that now remains of this pottery. The ruins of a brick bottle-kiln were demolished in 1974 after it was damaged in a gale. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
