Scope and Content Kitchen hotplate made by Carron Iron Works and installed in Callendar House, Falkirk Carron Iron Works was founded in 1759 and built on a vast scale to a carefully thought-out plan. It was connected with James Watt's early experiments with steam-power, but was best known for its cannon, the 'Carronade', and its fine castings. This cast iron kitchen hotplate in Callendar House is a good example of the fine-quality castings produced at the works for domestic use. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
