Scope and Content Provost Skene's House, Aberdeen Provost Skene's House was built in 1545. Like many of the houses of the urban weathy at the time, its design aped the fortified dwellings of the country land-owners. The present building is based on the original ground plan but mainly dates from the 17th Aberdeen, Broad Street, Provost Skene's House And Archway / Residential / / House / DIGITAL IMAGES From the mid 16th century onwards, wealthy people in Aberdeen began to build in stone rather than in traditional timber and wattle-and-daub.
