Scope and Content View of Carden Place Church, Aberdeen Carden Place Church was built in 1880-2. It was one of many churches built by the United Presbyterians to counter the rival Free Church's campaign to increase its own membership during the 1870s and 1880s. The architect was a member of the congregation. The rich furnishings of the church reflects the wealth of some members of the congregation who would have paid for them. The United Presbyterian Church was formed in 1847 out of denominations that had split from the Church of Scotland during the 18th century. It joined the Free Church of Scotland in 1900, except for one minority who formed the Wee Frees Church. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
