Scope and Content Fort on the Antonine Wall at Rough Castle, Falkirk This Roman fort is at Rough Castle. It is the best preserved fort along the Antonine Wall. It is also one of the smallest. The fort's location means that it can only be easily approached from the E. The other sides have natural defences. This is an aerial view of the site. The fort can be seen in the lower right of the image. Above it (the E side) is an annexe. In front of the fort, and running to the top of the image, is the Antonine Wall itself. The site was excavated in 1904. The remains of stone buildings found in the annexe were reburied. Finds are now in the Royal Museum of Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
