Scope and Content Fort on the Antonine Wall at Rough Castle, Falkirk This Roman fort is at Rough Castle. It is the best preserved fort along the Antonine Wall. It is also one of the smallest. The fort's location means that it can only be easily approached from the E. The other sides have natural defences. This is an aerial view of the site. The fort can be seen in the middle of the image, with the Antonine Wall below it. To the right is the steep sided gully of the Rowan Tree Burn, which protects the W side. The fort's annexe is on the opposite side. The site was excavated in 1904. The remains of stone buildings found in the annexe were reburied. Finds are now in the Royal Museum of Scotland.
